Connected Paediatrics Weekly: Sometimes you just know

Hi Reader

Dad Joke: You're telling me June is about to be over? No way bro Julying

Song of the Week: Chappel Roan - Pink Pony Club

I am just coming off a fantastic weekend out with the Royal College of Chiropractors Pregnancy and Paediatrics Symposium 2025. We had some incredible speakers and touched on subjects from connecting with children to having an aligned pregnancy, how to make yourself visible online, polyvagal theory, parasympathetic babies and the list goes on…

I love these types of get togethers, yes…you learn much from the speakers on the stage, but the magic is in those conversations around the coffee machine (the most important machine at any seminar!) I met some fantastic chiropractors: new ones, old ones, esoteric ones, neurological wizards, mechanical gurus and everyone in between.

The coffee machine was indeed brilliant. However, the best part of this particular symposium was the Friday evening. We cunningly organized it so that we had speakers on Friday night and then full day Saturday…this meant that our nervous systems weren’t yet overloaded on the Friday evening, and it was ventral vagus time (some neurological humour…if you know you know)

Toward the end of the night I found myself at a table of the most incredible folks. Different generations, different opinions but all happy to enjoy the sameness that we all shared. My only regret is that the cleaning staff left our table as is for the rest of the symposium to see the next morning! Awkward. Anyway…

During the evening, out of the blue…my friend Philippa (please check out Chirovisibility if you are looking to get your online presence into tip top shape!) dropped a throw away sentence that changed the trajectory of my whole weekend.

“You know how there is more hypermobility these days...” she said.

“Oh Yes” I replied. This is a definite finding “This gin is fantastic”

“And you know how there is more tongue tie nowadays…do you think tongue ties could be related to hypermobility, like the body trying to stabilize itself....”

“…!”

You know when you are slightly into the gins and then something pulls you right back into the moment. It was like a lightning bolt. Is it true? I dunno yet! But I’ve spent the rest of the weekend diving into it and a good few authors seem to agree.

The next morning, trying to avoid looking at the remnants on the table outside, during another talk the speaker started talking about hypermobility and another sneaky link (that I may divulge later). But straight away we texted each other across the room

“More hypermobility…more tongue tie!!!”

“Great Minds”

Being around like-minded people keeps you curious. They have different perspectives on old ideas that can spin the whole thing around in just a couple of words.

Next weekend is the Paediatric Chiropractic Africa symposium and I am looking so forward to doing it all over again. Chatting at the coffee machine, meeting new friends and old and hopefully…just maybe…have my worldview shaken again…and find another rabbit hole to climb down.

Paediatric Chiropractic…the journey is the destination.

Hi Reader Dad Joke: Did you hear about the race between two giraffes? It was neck and neck! Song of the Week: David Bowie - Space Oddity The Paediatric Chiropractic Africa Symposium was incredible. Johannesburg hosted over 100 participants live and online that learnt from some incredible local and international speakers. They were however also subjected to me in a bright orange spacesuit (proof of this below 👇)…well how else do you teach people about infant anatomy… When the dust settled and...

Hi Reader Dad Joke: What did one plate whisper to the other plate? Dinner is on me. Song of the Week: Stephen Wilson Jr. - Year to Be Young 1994 For about 2 years my son James spent his Friday evenings at swimming training…and so did I. It was an hour a week where we both spent time submerged. Him underwater, and I under about a ton of the latest research into plagiocephaly and torticollis in infants. I had decided to write a textbook…whilst he got pecs and abs...We can’t have everything! As...

Hi Reader Dad Joke: What do you call two monkeys that share an Amazon account? Prime mates Song of the Week: Post Malone - Circles When my daughter was born, I was in the middle of dealing with a marathon bout of dizziness that lasted about 3 years all in all. During that time, I remember having a specific appointment with an ENT who informed me that I had “failed” the latest batch of tests I had just been though. I am sure it was not his intention to upset me, but the word “failed” really...
