Being a paediatric chiropractor is awesome…it just is. We get to live out our passion everyday whilst creating a major difference in little people’s lives. A sneaky bonus is that we aren’t stuck behind computers all day crunching numbers (I am thankful for this every day!)

Having said this…there are a few numbers you really need to keep track of to make sure your practice is growing and thriving.

Welcome to the 3 Top Paediatric Chiropractic metrics

1. Referral Sources

Where are your new patients coming from? Is it from your website, local midwives, tongue tie practitioners, other parents etc. Knowing your most valuable referral channels allows you to put your energy into what is working best and likewise, what channels you may need to change strategy on.

First step is to add a referral field into your intake forms, “how did you hear about us” usually works well. I would also recommend you follow it up verbally in the appointment to confirm. This is important because sometimes, if your practice is on the way up, you might find they only put the first referral down, but they actually heard about you from three different sources before deciding to book in.

Remember that a quick text message or extra Christmas card to your top referrers costs very little and helps you stand out from the crowd.

2. Patient / parent satisfaction score

The more satisfied the parents are, the higher your retention rates will be. It’s not rocket science, happy people come back. But satisfaction can also be like spinach in your teeth, most people won’t tell you it’s there, unless you ask! It’s awkward when something puts you off, and it’s easier to smile and leave than go to the trouble of addressing it. That’s why having an anonymous survey / feedback form system allows parents to tell you how you did without having to worry about hurting people’s feelings. Ask questions directed to their experience, communication and treatment outcomes is important.

3. Patient Visit Average

Your PVA gives you the frequency of patient visits over time. Being the paediatric chiropractor in the office often means that your patient visit average (PVA) is different to the other practitioners. This is often because the care plans are a bit shorter on average. BUT…growth and development checks are your secret weapon in upping that rate. How do you take it? Well, you divide the number of patients in a month by the unique patients in the same time-period. if you had 400 patients over a month and 100 were unique…your PVA is 4 (each patient visited 4 times that month). This will show you trends over time and gives an idea of your financial stability as well as practice health.

That’s enough numbers for now. Back to the puzzles, toys and kids.
