Connected Paediatrics Weekly: More than one way to skin a banana

Hi Reader

Dad Joke: Why did the banana go to the doctor? Because it wasn't peeling well!

Song of the Week: Venus - Bananarama

This weekend found me in Newcastle teaching the Management of the Neonate. Great people great vibe and…a multitude of approaches to treating. We had diversified, we had SOT, we had ABC you name it… it was there and everyone was willing to share.

One of the things I love about paed chiro's is that the egos truly are left at the door and we got to learn from each other.

So we did an experiment…

I was teaching the cranials section and so we thought it would be interesting to, instead of releasing the cranium directly, to release meningeal tension with other techniques and then reassess the cranial strain patterns.

And guess what…

The cranial strain patterns reduced from lateral flexion, to torsion and then back to unimpeded flexion and extension…without touching the skull!

This goes towards proving what I have long held true: there are many ways to approach the body to create balance. Some may resonate more with you than others but at the end of the day the more tools you have in your tool belt the more people you can help

Keep learning, keep improving. There are many ways to skin a banana!

The Lost Boys from Neverland

Hi Reader Dad Joke: Why is Peter Pan always flying…because he neverlands! Song of the Week: Lost Boy - Ruth B They’re the ones who fall through the cracks. Too old to be “cute and developmental”.Too young to be taken seriously as adults. The lost boys of neuromusculoskeletal care. (And yes, I’m thinking Peter Pan.) Older children sit in a strange no-man’s-land of healthcare. When we see babies, we instinctively respect development. We talk about milestones, reflexes, variability, and...

Hi Reader Dad Joke: Why did the tomato turn red at the gym? It saw the salad dressing, and realized it needed to work on its core. Song of the Week: Johnny Clegg (With Nelson Mandela) - Asimbonanga (after spending some time in my home country South Africa this feels like the right song for this week.) Picture a core workout… I bet most of us have in mind a scene at the gym with yoga balls, reformer machines and lots and lots of lycra. But how many people do you think would picture a baby...

Chiropractic Teaching event

Hi Reader Dad Joke: Do you wanna hear a construction joke? I'm still working on it! Song of the Week: Inkululeko Lyndani ft Bhodloza Development is interesting. Mainly because it doesn’t work the way we think it does…let me explain. Let’s take the first year of life as an example. We initially assume that it’s pretty much a straight timeline from prone and supine to roll to sit to crawl to pull to stand…and on and on…but it isn’t. It’s much more of a “build up and burst” type of deal where...
